  • Are the pictures taken during client workshops confidential and cannot be reused?
  • Do clients struggle to understand what you’re talking about if there are no pictures?
  • Do the costs of hiring a professional photographer outweigh the benefits?
  • Do you have limited opportunities to have pictures taken due to a small client base?

What can you expect?

  • Compelling pictures showcasing you in action to effectively convey what you do to potential clients.
  • Photos and videos taken during the workshop specifically for internal speakers.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to attend the Facilitator's Connect Retreat! Last year in August 2022, the workshop retreat hosted by AJ&Smart in Italy made a significant impact on my professional development and business.

I’m excited to see that Michiel and Katrien are continuing with a similar concept for this year's event. I'm looking forward to experiencing the best parts of the previous retreat while also being exposed to fresh ideas and approaches.

What really excites me is the opportunity to spend time with some of the original 50 and meet new faces in our field from various industries and backgrounds. I'm eager to share my own best practices and learn from others, I know that the connections I make will be invaluable as I continue to grow in my career and business as they were in 2022!"

- Karla Ramos
"I am so excited about the upcoming facilitators connect retreat in September, I truly can't wait for it. Last year I attended a retreat which one of the best decisions I've made for my business. The experience was life-changing. I had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people who are in the same boat as me, all striving to build their facilitation businesses. The relaxed and collaborative environment allowed us to work together, exchange ideas, and push each other to grow. It was an unforgettable experience that has boosted my confidence as a facilitator and entrepreneur.

I came away from the retreat with newfound knowledge and inspiration, ready to take my business to the next level.

So I am so thankful that Michiel and Katrien decided to organize this new retreat. It will honestly be one of the highlight of 2023, for myself and my business. The speakers are fantastic, and the topics covered by the program are essential for anyone starting a business in facilitation. I'm really looking forward to this 5 days retreat, and I can't recommend it enough to anyone looking to grow their business and network with like-minded individuals. Thank you, Michiel and Katrien, for putting together such a fantastic event!"

You’re not selling facilitation, you’re not selling workshops, you’re selling an experience. And once you’re able to deliver an experience that your clients and workshop participants can’t stop talking about, everything starts to fall into place.

Putting in that extra effort is going to differentiate you in a flooded market, allow you to charge premium prices and get you the referrals you need for a flourishing pipeline. Sounds pretty good right?

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as coming up with a few cute highlights and wedging them into your workshop!

Making sure that your experience is on brand, unique to you and cohesive across all of your client touch points is what will get your participants talking and keep your clients coming back.

In this 2.5 hour workshop, we are going to:

  • Define your brand pillars – What do you stand for? What does your brand represent? What makes you, you?
  • Build your brand statement – It’s not just about telling people what you do, it’s about them understanding immediately what they can expect from the experience of working with you.
  • Design your brand experience – How can you inject your brand into your everyday interactions and your workshops in order to build stronger connections with your clients and community.

This workshop isn’t going to be easy, but it will be fun! Be prepared to dig deep, get productive and leave energized about the future of your business.

Axelle Vanquaillie

We invited Axelle because we noticed that a lot of people are interested in the power (and efficacy) of visual thinking and want to learn more about it.

Not only do they want to learn more for themselves, but also how to promote the power of drawing to elevate their workshops. To guide participants in their upcoming workshops to make them feel confident about drawing and explaining difficult concepts.

How often do we hear “But I cannot draw” in workshops? Well, a lot. Even so, as facilitators we know that creativity always starts to flow whenever we start drawing, however that drawing looks like. Axelle will help us discover that it’s not about perfection, but about finding new way to catalyze creativity, stoke new ideas and get participants’ minds working in dynamic and unexpected ways.

In the sessions that Axelle will provide, she will also give you advice on how to encourage your participants to draw and make them confident.

Why this event?

Everything is optional, you don’t have to join activities if you don’t want to

It is not a stuffy conference, but more like a summer camp for (future) entrepreneurs. It’s a place where cross-industry facilitators can come together to focus on and invest in growing their career. It’s an opportunity to draw (and share) inspiration, ideas, support, and collaborative opportunities with others in your industry. Along the way, you’re likely to make friends and some lasting and promising connections that support your long-term goals.

The advantage of staying together in the same place is that we’llleave room for serendipity. This will be a place where facilitators can be their authentic selves, speak openly about their ideas (and challenges) and collectively dive deeper into the world of facilitation to discover fresh perspectives, insights and resources to support their ongoing work.

This event will offer you sustained access to other facilitators. Everyone will hang out, brainstorm, collaborate, and take productive steps together at the retreat location. With such a small group, the quality of these connections will be much deeper.

Hi, I’m Michiel!

Without really knowing it, I’ve been facilitating and hosting workshops for years now. A while back I decided to make it my main focus.

You’re probably wondering how this could happen without me really knowing?
It was just part of my job and I did not really think about it.

I have a background in IT. I started as a software developer and later transitioned into the role of a functional analyst and scrum master.

Mainly during my period as an analyst and scrum master, I’ve been hosting lots of workshops; requirements gathering, team alignment, retrospectives,… you name it!

A while back I wanted to explore new challenges I did not really like getting down in the nitty-gritty details of the requirements gathering during the analysis process anymore.

So I started to look around what I could do next.

Then it hit me, I’ve been “facilitating” for years without ever really noticing it.
So I decided to move away from the nitty-gritty details and started learning about building and hosting my own custom workshops.

This allowed me to stay involved in the problem-solving process, without having to provide all the answers.

Now I try to help teams build the right products, faster. With the help of both custom and existing workshops, like the Design Sprint!

For me personally learning about facilitation was an eye-opener. It gave me a clear path forward.

I’m currently working on totally shifting my business there and that is what this retreat is all about, figuring out how to turn this passion into a business.

So if you’re struggling with positioning, marketing, and sales, make sure to come to this event to get hands-on assistance from our amazing speakers!

Michiel Hauwaert

Katrien Schepers

My name is Katrien and I’m from Belgium. I have a background in architecture and run my own facilitation business that guides companies through transitions to improved workplaces. Whether they want to upgrade their existing location, move to a new one, perform renovations, or even build a new place, I’m there to help. You can see me as a connection between a company and a realtor or architect.

I co-created this retreat because I love connecting people and I’ve experienced how powerful an in-person event can be.

The last event I went to was mind blowing, and to be honest not because of the speakers they invited. But it was so powerful because I was able to connect with like-minded people and grow together. So much beauty came out of it and this retreat is only one byproduct of it. I’ve had the opportunity to do a workshop in the heart of London, a workshop at the Google office in Brussels, I’ve facilitated retreats and I’m currently also active in hosting another event where I will be facilitating workshops with the community too.

So far, Michiel and I have created this amazing offer and we’re really excited about it all. We have great ideas, some of which we cannot share yet, that would be telling.

Always feel free to reach out if you want to know more!

See you in September!

Katrien Schepers
